9,250 / 10,000
- Clue 3 open: worth 9,250 (the clues cost 750)
- No wrong guesses: nothing more lost.
- One clue earlier, the same round scores 9,750.
What each clue and each miss costs
Clues start cheap and get dearer. A wrong guess is dear from the start, because it takes 30% of everything a right answer is still worth.
| Clue | Revealing it costs | Right answer worth | A miss on it costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (free) | 0 | 10,000 | 3,000 |
| 2 | 250 | 9,750 | 2,920 |
| 3 | 500 | 9,250 | 2,770 |
| 4 | 750 | 8,500 | 2,550 |
| 5 | 1,000 | 7,500 | 2,250 |
| 6 | 1,250 | 6,250 | 1,870 |
| 7 | 1,500 | 4,750 | 1,420 |
| 8 (outline) | 1,750 | 3,000 | 900 |
A miss costs a share of what's left, so a second miss costs less than the first. Every right answer and miss combination is in the full scoring table.
How Originle works out your score
- Right answer: the points for the clues open at that moment, then 70% of that for each earlier wrong guess. The game ends at the first right answer.
- Three misses: up to 1,000 for your closest guess, by its border-to-border distance from the answer. Any right answer, even 1,470, beats the best miss.
- Giving up: the same as missing, from the guesses you made; 0 with none.
Puzzles #1 and #2 keep their original scoring: a correct answer starts at 10,000 points, loses 1,000 for each extra clue through clue 7, and is worth 2,500 on clue 8 before subtracting 500 per miss. Choose “#1 or #2” in the calculator for those.
Guess now, or one more clue?
Compare the two prices. On clue 3, the next clue costs 750; a wrong guess costs 2,770. If you'd put your guess at less than about a three-in-four chance, the clue is the better buy. At the end it flips: on clue 7 the outline costs 1,750 but a miss only 1,420, so a reasonable guess beats waiting for it.
